Bugs, Locks and Ducks

We`ve been underway for about four days now. We went through some locks, saw a few geese, did a bit of homeschooling and are presently being invaded by shadflies.

Going through the locks are really boring, especially when you do NOTHING but sit around and watch the boat lower and rise! Actually, if you look closely you can see how much seaweed builds up on the walls...

Watching the geese was fun. There have been tons of families of geese and their cute little goslings! Back when we were at William`s Marine, we saw a family of ducks and ducklings. In Brockville, there was also a family of ducks. The mother wouldn`t go anywhere near our boat, so we couldn`t feed them. There was a Mallard Duck roaming around and Bryan fed him a bit of a triple chocolate muffin from Tim Horton`s. To Bryan and my amazement, the duck actually ate it! Also on our way, these two ducks apparently wanted food or a ride or something, because they kept zooming up to us, then landing on the water, then falling behind. They kept on doing it and it was pretty funny!

Homeschooling is even more of a bore than the locks! All I do is half a page of multiplication, music and a bit of english (this is part of it)BBBOOORRRIINNG!

Being infested by shadflies isn`t that fun either. They`re so pesky and irritating because they get up your nose, in your mouth and in your clothes. They lay eggs and that means even more shadflies! Nooooo!

So far this trip has been really wonderful and I think I will enjoy it even more later on...

Hi Elaine! Kathleen here! I'm sorry to hear about all the shadflies, and the boredom but the rest of it sounds like fun. I saw a bunch of turtles here in Austin the other day - they were really cute. :) Anyways, kiddo, have a safe trip and I'll talk to you soon - email me anytime you want! Bye for now!!
