Jetlag, London and Cousins
Jetlag. What other word describes how I sleep after a six hour time zone change from where I’ve lived all ten years of my life, Ontario. What is it when you need to fall asleep and it’s only 6:00 p.m. London time and you feel like it’s 11:00 p.m. Jetlag. I just couldn’t get to sleep on the right time. I couldn’t switch over to London time very easily. But, boy could I stay up really late in London! One night I stayed up till 1:30 a.m. Another night, I woke up at 12:30 a.m and stayed up till 4:00 a.m.. I finished my new book, Kira, Kira. (Which I will soon pass onto my Aunt). It is really confusing when your watch is set to London time and your body is set to Canadian time or somewhere in between. I’m getting better at sleeping, especially after walking around the city all day checking out the sights.
We did go around London a lot. We went on lots of buses – most of them double decker buses. We tried to sit on top and in the front row. That was scary because the bus drivers’ kept bumping into trees. Most of the trees were cut off at the bottom corner, exactly in the shape of a bus. Once we were sitting behind someone with an open window and a bunch of leaves fell on me!
We went to St. Paul’s Cathedral and climbed up all the stairs. We had a great view of the City of London. We also looked at all the colourful mosaics, read all the plaques (OK, maybe not ALL the plaques!) and we saw a bunch of gravestones in the crypt. Everywhere you walked, there were grave stones.
I took pictures of a few cobblestone streets. We saw one street that could have been there in medieval times except for the fact you could hear the t.v. blaring through the windows. Mom and I even went to Covent Gardens, where Eliza Doolittle from the movie, My Fair Lady was filmed.
We got to meet some of the Stahlman cousins. I finally met Poppy. We played all evening. We had English Fish and Chips for dinner. Poppy has a chocolate lab named Coco. While I played with Poppy, Bryan played with Coco. Most of the time, Poppy and I played with our Tamagochis. We also listened to music and talked.
