Moving on to Antwerp
There have been so many things going on, I haven’t had any time to sit down and write. Maybe the following lines will explain it better… We left London very quickly, since we were told the ship was coming in early. So, we headed off the Antwerp, Belgium. In the end the ship came later than we were told. So, we got to tour around Antwerp for five or six days.
We went to the Antwerp Zoo and saw lots of cute and ugly animals. Mom thought the warthog was the ugliest. We saw it up close. I thought the vultures were pretty creepy.
Some of the other ugly ones were tapirs, the hippos and the dead rats in the vulture cages. The cute animals were the owls, the new born chicks and the newborn seal. The baby chicks were so newborn that they were in their incubator and some were still hatching. I could see one pecking in the shell. We saw one just out of the shell. He was still struggling to stand up. He was so cute. The newborn seal was the cutest though. I was surprised to see a newborn seal pup there. It tried to swim. It’s Mom was pushing it back to shore, because it couldn’t swim. Once it even took off from it’s Mom and tried to swim, but it was struggling to swim. His Mom had to push him back shore again.
In the monkey section, there was a very gross chimpanzee. He would spit on the glass, then air suck it up and then lick up the remains. Is that too much detail?
We also saw a really cool animal, the Okapi. It looked like a horse and a zebra. Bryan says it is from the giraffe family. It was brown at the front and had stripes on the its back side.
I heard that the Antwerp Zoo was one of the first zoos in the world. It was really cool.
