Perfect Pastimes

There’s usually not much free time to do much, but when there is, I have a few favourite things I like to do – Scoubidoos, reading (duh) and singing strange (I mean STRANGE songs).

Scoubidoos are fun because you can make so many things like snakes, spiders, fish and mice. You can also make key rings round ones or square ones. It’s really fun. It is kind of like knotting or braiding with plastic round coloured tubes. So, far I have made a mouse, and a whole bunch of square ones. They are real easy once you get the hang of it.

I have read so many books that I can’t remember them all! Anyways, I like to read because its second nature to me. If the author gives lots of detail, I feel like I’m the main character and going through the adventures they are going through. If their loving father dies and they cry it makes me want to cry too. I can only do that with novels.

Dad knows all sorts odd but cool songs like “Old Hiram’s Goat” and the “Boarding House Song”. “The Boarding House Song” is Irish and “Old Hiram’s Goat” sounds British.

Old Hiram’s Goat

Old Hiram’s goat,
Was feeling fine,
Ate three red shirts,
Right off of the line,

Mrs. Murphy the cook,
She beat him black,
And tied him to,
The railroad track

Now that old goat,
He coughed and coughed,
Coughed up those shirts,
And flagged the train.

Boarding House Song (an old Irish Rovers Song)

In the boarding house I lived in,
Everything was growing old,

Silver threads among the butter,
And the bread was green with mould.

When the dog died, we had sausages,
When the cat died, Catnip tea,

But, when the landlord died, I left there,
For spare ribs were too much for me.

They are fun to sing when I am at the helm or someone else is.
